This week is definitely pushing my limits – two concerts (with rehearsals for both) plus a full teaching load is too much!
I have managed to keep up my CrossFitting and my eating plan, but my schedule has been way off – not nearly enough sleep and mealtimes were a struggle.
A quick two day recap since I ran out of spare minutes to blog…
Wednesday:
Started the day with a 6:30 am CrossFit workout. The plan was to run (I swear I’m going to fit in more running soon!!!) but it was pouring and I was a wimp.
I do love Wednesday partner workouts though.
25 minute AMRAP (reps for two people – we each did half)
- 50 wall balls (13 lbs)
- 50 box jumps (20 inches)
- 50 hand release push ups
- 50 kettle bell swings (35 pounds)

and some peppermint tea on the side.

The positive side of getting up at 5:30 was that I had a morning free to finally catch up on my practicing. A lot of notes to learn, it was good to have a few hours.
During practice breaks I did some cooking for the day.
An early lunch at noon:
cauliflower mash (not the most beautiful, but really delicious – just steamed cauliflower and blended it in the food processor with olive oil, salt, and pepper.)

Topped with marinated tempeh and a drizzle of the extra marinade (balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper.)

A long day of teaching (Wednesdays include most of my littlest kids) and then once again dinner to-go.
Zucchini “noodles” cooked with some of the leftover marinade, adding a few teaspoons of almond flour with portobello mushroom pieces and a leftover cod.

plus an orange.

Dinner was good, but with my early lunch I ate around 6 and by 10:45 when I got home from rehearsal I was starving. I probably should have just gone to sleep hungry (sleep is even more important than food) but instead I started in on snacking. I definitely overate (and eating at 10:45 isn’t ideal anyway) but I snacked on an apple, a banana, and too much homemade coconut pecan butter and a larabar so it definitely could have been worse.
Thursday:
I was still pretty full from the night before so I had a light two egg breakfast which again I had to take with me so I could get to my rehearsal on time.

This is when my busy week started to catch up to me. Stupid mistake #1: I forgot my music! We were able to rehearse one of the pieces with an extra part, one I found a copy on the internet, and another I played off the score, but it was all a big mess. I also spent the entire rest of the day panicking because I couldn’t find the music anywhere only to spot it at 11:30 at night where it had fallen in the back of my case – so in fact I had it at rehearsal after all! Arg.
On the plus side rehearsal was only 5 minutes from CrossFit so I headed over afterwards.
More sled pushing:
Part 1: 5 rounds
- sled push 25 yards
- sled pull 25 yards
Back at my parents house I had less than 10 minutes to throw together lunch.
Zucchini, baby spinach, and leftover tempeh.

More teaching and then getting ready for one last rehearsal before the weekend’s concerts.
I was at a loss for dinner until I spotted this in my parents’ freezer:

So leftover lentil soup and a bunch of carrot sticks for the road.

Only just as I was leaving I encountered stupid mistake number two: I forgot I had brought my viola to CrossFit and put it in the back room for safe keeping and I had left it there!!! I dashed out of the house, drove over to the box (in the opposite direction from my rehearsal) and frantically drove back downtown. SO nicely my Mother was just leaving work and agreed to meet me at my house and then drop me at rehearsal since at this point I didn’t have enough time to search around for a parking space. I made it at 6:55!
Rehearsal until 10 and then had to take the train back home. I ate a banana with the end of my pecan butter (hoping to end the late night snacking trend now.)
Whew. An exhausting week all around and sadly more to come today and tomorrow. This time I will just need to take enough time not to forget anything else.

why does your food always look so much better than mine? You are a great chef, that’s why! but you do forget one rule: “keys by the viola. keys by the viola…”
I KNOW! I only broke my keys by the viola rule because of our 10 minute walk before class… not my smartest move.
